Basketball Program Overview

1-2 Grade In-House Program

This program is designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball in a non-competitive atmosphere. Basic skills of dribbling, passing and shooting are stressed. Team zone defense is taught and good sportsmanship accentuated. The program begins in December with practices on Saturday afternoon. In January games begin which are one and a half hours long. This time begins with a half hour practice and then a game of four 10-minute running time quarters with a 5-minute halftime. These games are purely instructional as the coaches can teach in the midst of the game as needed. In this program the players will be shooting at an 8-foot hoop. The year ends with a round-robin tournament and awards day. Parents are encouraged to participate with the coach when called upon.

3-4 Grade Merrimack Basketball League Program

Team defense and offense are expanded upon. Practices begin in November, and games begin in December. In this program the players will be shooting at a 9-foot hoop.
