What league does the WAC play in?

Children in grades 3-8 play in the Merrimack Valley Soccer League (MVSL), which includes teams from area towns such Henniker, Hopkinton, Hillsborough, Bow, Warner, and Concord. Children in grades Pre-K-2 play locally in a Weare-only program.

What are the different age levels?

Grade 7-8: Grade 7-8 teams play 11 v 11 on a full-size field that is approximately 50 yards wide and 100 yards long. Teams play home and away games against other towns in the MVSL. The ten-game season includes a mix of weeknight and Saturday games. There is a tournament at the end of the season, with trophies and/or ribbons awarded. Practices for grade 7-8 teams are generally held twice a week before the season starts, and once a week afterward. Games consist of two thirty-minute halves, with five minutes at half time.

Grade 5-6: Grade 5-6 teams play 8 v 8 on a mid-size field that is approximately 45-50 yards wide and 65-75 yards long. Teams play home and away games against other towns in the MVSL similar to the grade 7-8 schedule. There is a tournament at the end of the season, with trophies and/or ribbons awarded. Practices for grade 5-6 teams are generally held twice a week before the season starts, and once a week afterward. Games consist of two thirty-minute halves, with five minutes at half time.

Grade 3-4: Grade 3-4 teams play 6 v 6 on a small-size field that is approximately 35 yards wide and 50 yards long. Teams play home and away games against other towns in the MVSL as well as a somewhat separate mini-in house games. The MVSL schedule season consists of Saturday games and one Friday game to compensate for no games on Columbus day weekend. The mini-in house games (at most three per team) will be held on weeknights and may take the place of a practice. We try to have an end of season Jamboree following the season, weather permitting. Practices for grade 3-4 teams are generally held once a week. Games will consist of four twelve-minute quarters, with two minutes between quarters and five minutes at half time.

Grade 1-2: Grade 1-2 teams play 6 v 6 on a small-size field that is approximately 30 yards wide and 45 yards long. Teams play all games in Weare against other Weare teams. The season includes Saturday games with a couple of weekday games to bring the total number of games to around eight. The last couple of years we have had a round-robin tournament at the end of the season at Field House Sports (an indoor facility in Bow). No standings are kept. Practices for grade 1-2 teams are generally held once a week. Games will consist of four twelve-minute quarters, with two minutes between quarters and five minutes at half time.

Kindergarten: This program will be open to all children of Kindergarten age, and will be a six-week program of games and activities held on Saturday mornings. There will be no formal teams.

Pre-Kindergarten: The Pre-Kindergarten program is for 4 year old children interested in Soccer. This program will be run similar to the Kindergarten program.
